Men’s Issues

Typical American culture teaches men a certain set of rules:

  • Never show weakness (emotion).

  • It’s NOT okay to express how you feel (other than ANGER).

  • Men don’t talk about their problems, especially the mental/emotional ones.

  • Being a Dad means being tough and teaching “discipline” through punishment and fear.

  • Go to work and providing financially for your family is enough.

  • Sex is an entitlement, especially when married.

  • Youth and Beauty are the most important traits when searching for a partner.

  • Vulnerability is weakness. Being open is weakness. Giving a damn about others is weakness.

Yes, men attend counseling as well! It’s okay to be vulnerable. It’s okay to be honest about areas of your life you struggle.

By taking the first step of reaching out, I’ll help you identify areas in your life that are strengths, as well as areas of growth. In our sessions, we will create goals of action, not sitting in a room (or virtual room) talking about what bothers you and how the world should change to accommodate your needs. Our time will be spent developing actionable plans that will help you better engage in all areas of health:

physical, mental, emotional, social, spiritual, financial, and sexual

My therapy style is built around Cognitive Behavioral techniques, as well as Solution Focused Brief Therapy. We focus on identifying negative/unhealthy thoughts that lead to problematic behavior, and create ways to challenge/change those thoughts to change the outcome (behavior). Using solution focused techniques means we put actionable plans into place during your session. If you are looking for a long term therapy process that asks you to spend weeks talking about your childhood and how that impacted you, this probably isn’t your place.

In therapy, we are looking for results. That means positive change. We are going to break through the stereotypes mentioned above by helping you be more vulnerable with the people you care about, embracing life’s challenges rather than avoiding them, and creating actionable plans to improve in all areas of health.

Don’t wait until:

  • You’re about to lose your job.

  • Your significant other is about to leave you.

  • You’re engaging in alcohol/drug abuse or dependence.

  • You’ve alienated all the people you care about.

  • You’re miserable.

You only get one go around on this planet. Let’s help you find a way to make it the best experience possible.
